About Us
We welcome you to our site and hope you enjoy it!
The agency's mission is is to provide a caring friend and role model to each child on the waiting list and a rewarding experience for each volunteer mentor. Our organization does not want any child to have to wait too long for a match.
We are available for questions, comments or to just touch base! We love to hear any feedback or suggestions to help with our mission or our matches. Each month we provide a volunteer orientation. Please inquire to sign up for one of these sessions to see what volunteering for our program is all about!
As the nation’s leader in positive youth development, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been helping to shape young people into caring, successful, productive adults for over a century. In 2011, Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters celebrated its 44th anniversary. In the past ten years, RBBBS has more than quadrupled the number of one-to-one matches between caring adult mentors and at-risk youth.
In 2009, 408 Big-Little matches were served through agency programs -- Community-Based, Campus Pals, Bigs in Schools, Bigs Plus, Children of Promise, and Intergenerational Mentoring. Our number of matches has grown significantly over the past four years and programs remain strong, thanks to the support of the community and our increasing success at winning grants. However, there is an escalating need for prevention services for children and youth in the rapidly growing Planning District 16. RBBBS strives to match all children and youth whose parents or guardians apply on their behalf, provided they meet the eligibility criteria for youth enrollment in our program. Our organization is dependent on caring volunteers to become mentors ("Bigs") so we may provide a mentor to each child who wants and needs one.
